
Tellef Johnson is a writer-director who also composes and conducts the
music to his films. A dramatist, he specializes in human stories that
are humorous, terrifying and fantastical.
Of Norwegian heritage, Tellef was born in 1977 in Blacksburg,
Virginia. As a youngster, he attended the Lyric Theater frequently
and decided that he would like to make films, attempting to do so with
his father's Video8 camcorder.
Later, Tellef studied in New York at Juilliard, collaborated with
Garrison Keillor, has received numerous awards, grants, fellowships
and accolades for his work, and has directed a series of unusual short
films, SOLFEGE (2003), THE HELENA LETTERS, THE LAST BREATH OF KARIN
WILDER, and CATS IN THE CRADLE (2004), serving as writer, director,
cinematographer, editor and composer.
With his wife and collaborator, producer Reka Leszay, Tellef is
currently in pre-production for his debut feature film which has been
several years in the making.
